Curriculum Summary
This may be a “first group” experience for most preschool age children. The beginning of the year will be spent helping them adjust to a group environment (separating from parents) and adjusting to the daily routine.
The preschool class daily schedule will include group experiences with ample opportunities for language and social interaction. The curriculum is theme based with units such as, “getting to know you”, animals, and holidays, as well as other themes which are familiar to the preschool child. Hands-on art experiences and activities such as easel painting, finger painting, and sand and water play are an integral part of the program. Each day, children are given the opportunity for free exploration, structured group times, fine and large motor activities and story time. Colors, shapes, counting, visual, auditory, and sensory perceptual skills are also emphasized. Weekly music and creative movement classes offer an opportunity to encourage self-expression. Weekly Christian education classes teach Bible stories that are presented in an age appropriate language that the children can easily understand.
Our goal in the preschool classroom and at NCLC is to provide a safe and nurturing environment where children are active in the learning process and have Christian values modeled for them daily.
