A Teacher’s Heart

A teacher’s heart has many rooms.
Each needs a different key.
Love and caring unbolt some compartments.
Faith and prayer find a way into others.
Patience and compassion pick the locks
Of tightly shuttered windows,
Letting in the light of hope and encouragement.
Only then can lives be changed; teachers’ and students’,
Forever.

I hope that you and your family have recovered from the holidays and have settled into work and school again. I know I usually get settled in just in time for February vacation. Winter is such a great season! A lot of nature seems to sleep or just take a break. I hope you and your family have an opportunity to enjoy some times to take a break this winter and remember that God loves you.

Bible Story Themes: During the month of February, it seems everything on TV is about showing your love for someone by buying them something. Few seem to remember that God is not only the author of love, but God IS love. He came to earth as Jesus because He loves us. He wants a relationship with us because He loves us. So this month the weekly Bible stories will be about how much God loves us. The Toddler 1 group will be learning that God made our arms, hands, legs and feet because He loves us. The Toddler 2 group through Kindergarten will be learning that God’s love is the best gift. And, because He loves us, Jesus can bring healing to people on the inside. Because He cares for us, Jesus can also calm a storm and feed 5,000 people from just a few loaves of bread and fish. Your child will be bringing home pictures they have colored and possibly a craft project relating to the stories they have heard. Please ask them about the story. It will help them remember.

Chapel Dates and Times: Community Chapel pastors will have 30 minute chapel for NCLC children on February 2nd and 3rd starting at 9:30 in the Fellowship Hall at Community Chapel. Parents are welcome to attend.

A Request: If there are any changes in your family, please let me know. Changes in the family, even the loss of a well-loved pet, can deeply affect a child. We would like to be aware so that we can help your child through this difficult time. And, I would like to pray for you and your child and help you in any way that I or Community Chapel can help.

If you have any questions about my role at NCLC, the Bible curriculum, helping your child develop his/her relationship with God, or any family concerns, please call me at NCLC, 603-883-4356 or email at pastorshirley@community-chapel.org .

Dear Parents,

January was full of new songs and lots of movement! This time of year, the playgrounds are icy and the weather is cold, and the children do not get out as much as they usually do, so I like to bring more movement into my classes. We sang clapping, marching and skipping songs, but the children’s favorite by far was the train song, sung to “This Train is Bound for Glory.” Everyone chooses what kind of train car they want to be, then lines up behind me. Our egg shakers provide the train sounds as we shake and march to the beat of the music. The fun begins when the train goes “up a hill” – we now take one step for every two beats of the music as we slow down, and then when we reach the top, we speed up and take two steps for every beat to go “down the hill”. We shake and run all around the room while staying “on the track”, and the children can’t keep from squealing with delight as we go faster. We finally slow down as the train comes into the station and we put on the brakes. And just as we are starting to catch our breath, several of the children shout, “Again! Again!”

In February, I will continue with more movement, adding very simple folk dances and maybe a few songs that preview spring.

Happy Singing!
Nancy
